During one of many {miserable} visits to my dermatologist about my never-ending, ever-depressing problem with acne, I was recommended a couple of products. On a scrap piece of paper along with my Isotretinoin prescription, the Doctor quickly scribbled down La Roche-Posay - Effaclar and Vichy Laboratoires - Normaderm and told me to "stay positive and try them". But I'd had enough of endless silly recommendations that didn't work and felt frustrated that nothing seemed to help my skin calm down and appear less angry. I'm pretty certain that little piece of paper was thrown away as soon as I got home. Two years later I'm kicking myself that I didn't take note of it and take the Doctor's advice sooner...
Whilst scrolling through the lovely Rosie's blog {Cider With Rosie} a few weeks back, I stumbled across those words again... La Roche-Posay. Rosie has deemed the Effaclar Duo blemish control serum as a miracle product for her, so what could I possibly lose by trying it out for myself?!
I'm pretty chuffed to say that I agree with Rosie on this one. I've only been using this serum for a few weeks but in a matter of days I was noticing really positive changes to my skin. My skin is naturally rather red with blemishes and is scarred from acne, but recently has appeared less red, clearer and healthier in general. I've been applying it once a day in the morning, in between washing my face and moisturising. If you suffer with acne or spots then you may feel apprehensive about applying serums as they can be rather oily but the Effaclar Duo leaves my face feeling bright and fresh just seconds after applying. It doesn't leave that horrible greasy effect at all, it's so lightweight in texture. My only reservation is that it smells a bit strange. I can't put my finger on it but it's a sweet, floral smell, a bit like the strong odor that a fresh bunch of lilies gives off... I'm not really sure if I'm fond of it.
Never the less, this little squeezy tube is officially a skin genie and definitely a product I'll continue to use.
A squeezy 40ml tube of Effaclar Duo doesn't come cheap but I thoroughly recommend it. I purchased mine for £16 from my local Chemists across the road but it retails at Boots for £15.50.
