This week's happiness

We got back from our Scottish adventure last weekend and have both been back to work this week so it's been a busy one. I always find it so hard going back to work after time off... I could definitely be a full-time lady of leisure! But aside that it's been a good week, I can't complain!

Things that have made me happy this week...

Family
We drove straight to my parents' house on our way back from Scotland and had a lovely 24 hours with my parents and brother. I hadn't been 'home' in Hertfordshire for a little while so I was blissfully happy to be back and see everyone again (apart from my sister...waaaa!). We went on a long countryside walk together in Ashridge, one of our favourite spots (maybe a blog post will follow on this!). It was such a nice morning! If you follow me on instagram (@lydiasjmcm) you will have seen a few pictures already...

The new Pizza Express menu!!
If you haven't heard already, Pizza Express have updated their good old menu... and added the most scrumptious dishes. Doughballs with cheese baby!!! Amazing! I enjoyed a carbonara pizza... yes a carbonara pizza!! How cool is that?! It was so tasty.

Turbo trainer!!!
On Monday Rob arrived home with... a turbo trainer! So exciting! I've wanted one for ages, especially now that it's winter. It will be perfect for those cold, dark evenings when I don't fancy going out running or to the gym... I'll be able to just sit happily on the turbo instead, peddling away in the living room! We haven't set it up yet, but when we do I shall feedback and let you know how I find it.

Health
Yep, it's official, I'm back on the healthy bandwagon. Since our holiday in July to lanzarote I have slacked on the healthy eating front, snacking on chocolates at work and generally just being lazy. I've been feeling pretty sluggish as a result. You know when you just start to feel like... "Uuugggghhhhh"..?! I know I've put on a bit of weight recently and I'm determined to lose it - just because it's winter it's no excuse to eat rubbish and be lazy! So this week I've been on two runs, eaten well and last night I went swimming!! I hadn't been swimming properly (aside from snorkelling in the sea in lanzarote) for 3 years! In all honesty I was really nervous about being in a swimming costume again but I plucked up the courage and strolled down to our local pool (which may I add is a 3 minute walk away - why hadn't I done this before?!) and went for an evening swim.  And I did 32 lengths!! I'm so chuffed and I felt amazing for it afterwards so it will definitely be a regular thing from now on. I'm finally feeling back on track!

Another candle...
Rob and I popped into Clinton Cards this week and, as you do, started checking out all the different yankee candles. Usually this is pretty much just a case of me picking them up and making 'mmmm' sounds and him saying 'eeewww'! But he accidentally dropped and smashed a massive candle all over the floor!! So. Embarrassing. The two women on the till were less than impressed so Rob decided to buy one as an apology. Secretly I was pretty happy! Love this scent, perfect for winter!

I'm pretty tired after my first week back at work and after another day at uni today. But it's Friday!!! Being a shift worker it's always a novelty to have a Friday evening off - it's a rarity these days. My best friend is coming down to stay tonight and we're off to the comedy club in Greenwich (Up The Creek)- check it out if you're nearby, it's a great place to visit for a dose of laughter!

Happy Friday, have a lovely weekend
