Mr Carter's Soy Candles

It's no secret that I adore candles. I rarely leave the supermarket without a couple of new pillar candles and a trip to Ikea definitely wouldn't be a trip to Ikea without some tea lights thrown in the trolley. All year round candles can brighten up any home or garden and with the vast range of fragrances to choose from today we are indeed spoilt for choice.
I've always got a few candles lit each evening and there's nothing better when it's cold and miserable than lighting a load of candles and cosying up.

But whilst I have some personal favourites I'll buy again and again (The White Company's 'Seychelles', Jo Malone's 'French lime and blossom' and Yankee's 'sugared apple') I'm always open to trying new aromas.

So when I discovered that someone I know was making candles, I was intrigued. I met Mike (a witty and hilariously fun guy!), in the summer of 2011 on my travels in New Zealand. He's since come back home to England after staying in Australia for a while and with inspiration from his grandfather Mr Carter (who had a great passion for candle making) and with new-found knowledge about the benefits of Soy wax from his time in Australia, he went about setting up his candle-making business.

(Mike & I in New Zealand)

I have a lot of admiration for people who take the plunge and start up businesses from scratch so immediately I was keen to show my support and purchase a few of the goods. I chose two different scents: vanilla cocoabean and mimosa mandarin. Mr Carter's candles are sold in three different sizes: the cute small sized ones come in tins whilst the bigger ones are set in glass jars. At roughly £11.99 candle they're pretty good value too.

I was so excited to receive these in the post and can genuinely say I am so impressed. They smell divine. I think the glass jars give the candles a classy image and knowing they're all hand made makes them extra special.

Word seems to be spreading fast about Mr Carter's candles which are now selling at Portobello Road Market.

Thank you Mike at Mr Carters Candles. You've made my day!

  1. Soy wax candles are made from soybean oil from the soybean plant, containing a high proportion of stearic acid. It is typically softer than paraffin wax luxury scented candle
