Despite the amount of family photo albums we have, my parents have never really displayed any of their wedding photos around the house. I'm not sure why because I think they look wonderful and wedding photos are always so special to look back on.
I loved rifling through the old photo albums, especially my grandparents'. My mum is from New Zealand and I've only been there a few times so I wasn't too familiar with some of the people in her parents' wedding photos, so it was really special to sit down with mum and chat about my ancestors. I so wish I could have met her dad - he died when my mum was just 7 years old, but he sounded like such a fun loving, devoted father.
I knew both of my dad's parents really well, as they lived just outside of Oxford. I spent much of my childhood at their cute little bungalow and have such fond memories of them both. It was interesting though, because ever since I was born, I had known them as 'grandparents' - 'old people'. But to see them on their wedding day so young and looking so in love, made me see a totally different side to them that I hadn't seen before. I think my Grandma looks adorable and her bouquet really is something!
Once I had chosen my three favourite photos I scanned them onto the computer and edited the one of my parents to make it black and white to match the others. After a bit of cropping and transferring onto a USB stick, I got them printed at my local photo printing shop. I bought a horizontal frame with space for three photos. It cost about £30 if my memory serves me right.
Initially I set out to frame this for myself, but my parents were so touched by the idea and totally fell in love with it so I gave it to them as a gift. My dad has hung it on the wall in their hallway and I know he will really treasure it.
Such a beautiful reminder of the love within my wonderful family.
