You may remember early last year that I blogged about my first ever skiing lesson at the Snozone in Milton Keynes? Well, a few weeks ago we finally went on our long awaited skiing holiday to the French Alps with our friends Emma & Matt, and had the most magical time in the snowy mountains. I was overwhelmed at how beautiful the scenery was and how much fun I had skiing, so I thought I'd share some photos...
We stayed at the Radisson Blu Resort in Les Arcs 1950 which we booked via Crystal Ski. Each of the different villages in Les Arcs are named after their altitude height, so being at 1950m meant that we were pretty high up! Out of all of the villages, 1950 is without a doubt the prettiest {and most expensive!} village but it was the perfect place to spend a week and I was in awe of how beautiful it was. It was everything I'd imagined an Alpine ski resort to look like, with cute wooden chalets topped with snow, fairy lights galore, a big Christmas tree in the centre and plenty of little pubs and restaurants and ski shops. I'd thoroughly recommend the accommodation, we had our own self-catering apartment which slept 6, complete with English TV, WIFI and access to spa facilities. I would happily have moved in! And I fell in love with the views from our bedroom. Waking up each morning to snowy mountains really is the best...
The views were incredible - I'd been to The Alps before when I was young
and also in my gap year when I travelled to Salzburg in Austria, but I
really was blown away. It was different being in such high altitude and I
think unless you go on a skiing/snowboarding holiday then these are
views you may never be lucky enough to see...
Rob, Emma & Matt had all been skiing a few times before so were pretty confident on the slopes and were happy to go zooming off. I'd had three lessons in England and had never set foot on a big slope so I was pretty terrified. So we hired our skis for the week and I booked six hours of lessons in total with JP from Aim Snowsports who I couldn't recommend highly enough, it was the best thing I could have done. I've no idea how but with his help believe it or not I can actually ski, it's a miracle! I had some rather comical falls, a few highly embarrassing moments, a bruised knee and cried tears of frustration but it was all worth it for those adrenaline-filled moments zooming down the mountain at full pelt! Towards the end of the week I conquered a bit of a red run and was whizzing down all the blues runs!
Emma and I spent a couple of afternoons making the most of the spa facilities whilst the boys went and did some hardcore 'scary skiing'. The outside jacuzzi wasn't the warmest of jacuzzis but being in a bikini overlooking snow-covered mountains was quite surreal!
And the rest of the week pretty much went like this... skiing, drinking, skiing, eating, skiing, drinking, sleeping, skiing, eating, drinking, spa-ing, skiing... Total heaven. We basically just studied the piste map, finding different bars to ski to for food and drink!
And in the evenings we cracked open champagne, played cards and enjoyed some wonderful French food. Not sure life gets any better than that really?!
On the final afternoon, Rob and I went off together and did some skiing alone. We got the ski lifts up to the top of the mountains and conquered the highest altitude blue-run on the piste map, stopping off for cocktails and dessert on route! The views were out of this world and the ski down was terrifying but so much fun.
What a dreamy, dreamy week. Les Arcs we love you! We were so sad to have to leave, but one thing's for sure... I've officially caught the skiing bug and I can't wait to go again!!
Here's a little video I made...
