After the kitchen, our bedroom was the next room that we wanted to get sorted when we moved into our house back at the beginning of July last year. Much like the rest of the house, nothing really needed to be changed. The carpets are as good as new and the walls had only been painted white a few years ago, but there were a few irritating grubby marks on the wall from previous furniture which were a bit of an eye-sore. And since we had some leftover Farrow & Ball paint from our kitchen makeover we decided to paint the largest wall in the bedroom in ammonite grey, creating a very subtle 'feature wall' if you could even call it that, to add some character whilst keeping the room as tranquil as possible. I think it's so important to make your bedroom a relaxing place to be, somewhere you can completely unwind. Calming colours can go a long way in achieving this!
It should have been a relatively quick job, as it was just the one wall that needed painting, but these things always seem to take longer than expected don't they?! We tried to be so careful when painting the edges where two walls met, using frog-tape to help keep the lines as straight as possible. It took a couple of coats to hide the grubby marks where a previous headboard had scuffed the wall and we painted over some marks on the ceiling in white too.
But once the painting was finished it was time for the best part... the furnishing!! I have never been quite so excited as I was when our furniture arrived... it was like Christmas had come early!! We were finally able to sleep in our room instead of on a blow-up mattress in the spare room. Since moving out of my parents house all those years ago for university, I've lived in rented properties which have all been furnished, so it was exciting to be able to choose all of our furniture from scratch. And a good nights sleep cures just about everything so it was only right that we spent a good fortune on a decent bed... that was my excuse anyway!
Our bed, wardrobe and tall-boy were purchased from the Essence Oak range at John Lewis and the bed-side table is just an old Ikea Hemnes table with a customised drawer-knob. The mirror was a total bargain at a local furniture boutique and it was pure luck that it matched the rest of the furniture so well!
And just yesterday I just found and fitted the lampshade which I think goes perfectly with the rest of the bedroom. It was from B&Q of all places and I'm so pleased with it. Hashtag all grey everything!
I love the light in this room, we're fortunate that our house is south-facing so from mid-morning until evening the sunshine streams in but equally I love our bedroom at night time when the curtains are closed, the lamps are on and it's a peaceful place to be. I think our bedroom is my favourite room in the house, it feels like a cosy little getaway. I only wish life would calm down a bit and we could find more time to chill out in bed watching movies!
What do you think?
