Christmas Tree Oh Christmas Tree

Happy 1st December you lovely lot! The Christmas Tree is officially up and our living room is full of sparkle and that wonderful smell of fresh Nordman Fir. You just can't beat the smell of Christmas, can you?!

Rob always promised me that once we bought a house we could have a real tree - in previous years it felt like a bit too much hassle to attempt to haul a real tree into our flat so we stuck with a fake one. A rather nice fake tree I must add, but it couldn't have competed with a real one. So much to my delight, all promises have been kept and we finally have a real tree to celebrate our very first Christmas in our first home!

We trekked up to the local garden centre yesterday to choose our beloved tree. It reminded me of all the times I went with my parents to choose the family Christmas tree when I was little and how exciting it was! I'm not sure the excitement of Christmas will ever really go away... it's such a magical time of year and I love all these old traditions.

So anyway, we chose a biggun, a 7 footer! And my handsome hero of a boyfriend carried it all the way home. He's a keeper.

The not so magical part about decorating the Christmas tree is the lights. I hate the lights... they always cause arguments! They never cease to get in a big messy tangle and then when you finally have them untangled you always have to replace at least one bulb that's blown. So this year I was clever and bought some brand new lights... all arguments avoided! We've kept the decorations rather simple, I'm not a fan of tinsel or anything too bright or tacky. So we've stuck with plain white lights with mostly silver decorations and a splash of red. I've got a growing collection of the prettiest mercurised silver baubles which we'll keep for years to come.

There's nothing better than arriving home from work to those sparkly lights in the window and a house full of festive cheer... The Christmas countdown has officially begun!

Have you decorated your tree yet? I've still got to hang the wreath & start all of my Christmas shopping...!!
