Two thousand and fifteen!!

Happy New Year, one and all!

Two thousand and fifteen - Geeeeeez, how on earth has it been fifteen whole years since the millennium?! Crazy!

I've had a busy start to the year with work... I was working day shifts on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day itself so I'm sad to say I was fast asleep when the clock struck 12, I wasn't even woken by fireworks! And to top it off I had a university assignment due on the 6th so quite frankly I don't feel like I've done anything remotely exciting or particularly special so far this year... which is a little bit sad! But thankfully my essay was handed in on time and my busy working week is nearly over. Hurrah! That's the thing with shift work, sometimes it feels like a whole week or so has gone by in a flash, right before my eyes and you actually don't feel like you can justify where the time has gone.

As I said in my previous post I am not a fan of this 'New Year, New me' rubbish. Having said that, I think this is the first year I've properly thought about what a 'New Year' might mean to me and on my way to work on the 31st I sat on the train and thought really hard about what my resolutions would be. A couple of them are a bit too personal for here I'm afraid but I'll happily admit that I'll be aiming to be a little more frugal with my money this year in an attempt to save some money aside. I am so rubbish with money sometimes. I also want to make more time for my family and my friends this year. Being a nurse isn't just a career, it's a way of life. Shift work can be so disruptive at times, especially at Christmas and Easter and on Bank Holidays where the rest of you are off, enjoying the freedom and catching up with people - it's easy to let work take over and feel like I don't have time for people, but I've learnt this year that that only makes me feel miserable. So it's time to dedicate more time to those I love. I also want to run another 10km this year with my Dad before he gets too old to run with me(!!!) and I'm attempting to be super organised and take lunch into work with me every single day, instead of wasting money away on shop bought lunches.

One thing I can be sure of however, is that 2015 is already set to be a brilliant year. We have two holidays booked already - one to Rome in May (one of my favourite cities ever) and one to Croatia in July (which I have been dying to visit for as long as I can remember so I'm really excited)! We're off to see Ed Sheeran in July, Michael McIntyre in October and one of my best friends is getting married in the summer which is going to be totes emosh - I'm currently in the process of making her wedding confetti and I'm going to pack a bag full of tissues for the ceremony. My sister and I are also planning the best spa day away for my mum's birthday in March and I've no doubt there's plenty more exciting things to come!

I've got lots of ideas up my sleeve for plenty more blog posts, including several travel posts, lots more baking posts and hopefully...just hopefully...I'll be able to document our house hunting journey!! Please let 2015 be the year that we finally become home owners?!
Of course if you've ever got any suggestions for blog posts then they would be totally welcomed.

I've no doubt you've all started 2015 much more excitingly than I have! But here's to a bright, happy and prosperous year.
