Just before Christmas I decided to treat myself to a few little Christmas presents to myself, from myself... it's acceptable to do this, right?! Right! One of them was a make-up bag from the lovely beauty blogger-gone-lifestyle vlogger Hannah Maggs. If you haven't watched any of her YouTube videos then you must, you really must. They are seriously beautiful! Hannah and her husband broadcast their weekly videos each Sunday evening (#sundayeveningwiththemichelaks) and each video is shot incredibly using the most amazing camera equipment and drones, with footage of themselves and their adorably cute son Grayson and beautiful music as an accompaniment. You can find her on YouTube here.
ANYWAY, aside from vlogging and blogging, Hannah has a small business in which she designs her own range of make-up bags, using the prettiest fabrics sourced from Liberty London and the likes. Each make-up bag is named after something significant and personal in her life; the one I chose is called 'Reflection' and this is what Hannah herself has to say about it...
"With today's fast-paced lifestyles we tend to spend most of our time
thinking about what tomorrow will bring, too often forgetting what
yesterday gave us.
Taking just a few minutes to reflect on the past is as cathartic and
humbling as it is pivotal to knowing exactly in what direction we want
to go. It is something we should all take time to do over a cup of tea
and few quiet minutes to ourselves, maybe invite some chocolate along so
you can point it in the right direction too!
This kind of reflection is something they never teach in school; you
could scour all the libraries of the world and not find a single word
written about it, because although finding yourself is something you can
learn, it’s not something you can teach.
We are all on our own separate journeys, but we travel together. Part
of this journey is finding our true selves and realising who we want to
become. This may sound a little far-fetched and whimsical, but I want
you to imagine that this little makeup bag is a reflection of yourself,
sitting and watching, subjectively, never judging, softly reminding you
to remember your journey and how far you’ve travelled to be exactly where you are today"
How lovely is that?!
As I've mentioned before in my Mr Carter's Soy Candles post, I am full of admiration for people who set up businesses from scratch and who use their creativity and dedication to create things by hand as a means to make a living. Hannah has designed each of these make-up bags herself and after the help of a seamstress she wraps each one individually and posts them by hand. Mine arrived in the post, wrapped beautifully in brown kraft paper with a little Christmas bow. It sat proudly under my Christmas tree for a week or so - and even though I knew exactly what was inside, it was presented so elegantly!
Isn't it cute? I love the floral Liberty print and it's just perfect for a few make-up essentials. I don't think I could be trusted with using it as an 'everyday' make-up bag as knowing me I'd be stupidly clumsy and end up spoiling the fabric with some foundation or an eyeshadow would crack inside it...! But I think it will make the perfect little bag for when I stay overnight somewhere or for holidays. I adore it!
Thank you so much, Hannah!
